Logo Design: Medical Writer

February 7, 2011

Designing the identity program for a medical writer was a fun opportunity to combine imagery from two different professions into one logo. The client provided a list of attributes that she wanted the logo to convey including professionalism, accuracy, clear communication and science.

Conceptual development sketches by Jamie Kapitain.

In the conceptual development phase, I explored different combinations of medical objects and writing tools capturing all of the ideas with sketches. There was a stethoscope and a syringe each with a fountain pen nib and a computer mouse shaped like a medicine capsule among many other pairings. The sketches were refined and five rough digital concepts were presented to the client. The final solution ended up being a writer’s fountain pen dipping into a medical lab’s beaker instead of an ink well.
